Garden City is nestled by the river in the heart of the Boise. It is surrounded by Boise on most sides and north Meridian to the west. It has become a trendy area in recent years experiencing a revitalization.

 

     The main avenue through Garden City, Chinden Boulevard, as well as the city itself was named by Chinese immigrants in the late 19th century. The area was home to their extensive gardens thus giving the city its name and Chinden by combining ‘Chinese’ and ‘garden’. The gardens are all long gone, but there is still plenty of green space to experience.

     The Greenbelt runs the entire length of the city along the Boise River. It is a popular place for residents of the Treasure Valley with walkers, joggers, and bicyclists enjoying it. The river and rapids of Boise Whitewater Park are popular with surfers, kayakers, and paddle boarders. There is an abundance of wildlife as well along the beautiful banks of the river.

     Garden City has become known for its hip vibe, craft breweries, and winery tasting rooms. According to the Garden City Visitor’s Bureau, “there are more wineries, cideries, and breweries per square mile in this town than anywhere else in Idaho.  The Boise Hawks baseball stadium is located in west Garden City along with the Western Idaho Fairgrounds which hosts the Western Idaho Fair as well as many other events throughout the year including home shows, RV and car shows, craft shows, Idaho’s Largest Garage Sale, and more. The city has many other fun things to do including music venues, a glass blowing studio, boutiques, antiques, and home and garden stores.

     Real estate options in Garden City range from cozy older neighborhoods to new modern condos to large riverfront properties. Homes and property tend to be more affordable than in Boise or Meridian. Garden City is waiting for you to call it home.
